Edinson Cavani, overpriced or perfect for Manchester City?

As many of you know on twitter, I have repeatedly followed the story of Edinson Cavani and the rumours of him leaving Naples. With a rumoured €62 million buy out clause, there are a very few limited clubs that can prize Cavani away from the Stadio San Paolo.

Napoli's home ground of the Stadio San Paolo
Since the Uruguayan joined Napoli from Palermo in 2010 for a rumoured €17 million, his price tag has gone up and up, along with his reputation. He has possibly become the first iconic figure in the city of Naples since another South American known as Diego Maradona, who drastically changed the course of history at S.S.C. Napoli.

In his first season he along with good friend Ezequiel Lavezzi secured Napoli's place in the Champions League for the first time in twenty years. A remarkable achievement for a club who eight years earlier were on the verge of bankruptcy. Cavani contributed 33 goals in the entire season. The following season Cavani and Lavezzi became possibly the most feared strike force in European football.

Cavani caught the eye with a majestic finish at the Etihad on City's first night in the Champions League, finishing and ending a superb Napoli counter attack. The reserve game in Naples, was controlled by Napoli with Cavani providing the lethal goal threat yet again by scoring two goals in a 2-1 victory for the home side.

Napoli went on to qualify from the group and met Chelsea in the last 16. Cavani scored another goal against an English side. By the end of the 2011-2012 season Cavani had again scored another 33 goals for the Naples side, but was dealt a huge blow when Lavezzi joined the riches in Paris with Paris Saint Germain.

There was much talk of Cavani following his strike partner out the door of the Stadio San Paolo but he signed a new contract on May 19th 2012. Despite talk of Chelsea, City and Real Madrid, he wished to remain with Napoli and show loyalty to the club that made him one of the most feared names in European football.

Since the departure of Lavezzi, many journalists felt Cavani would struggle without his close friend. Despite the sale of Lavezzi, he has seemed to improve to a much greater standard than people expected. In 23 games this year, he has found the net 25 times. His form and opening of the January transfer window has again started the rumour mill that Cavani is set to leave Naples for pastures new.

With City been long known admirers of Cavani, a lot of talk has been surrounding the 25 year old Uruguayan. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has admitted turning down a bid for his star striker. With pace, power, strength, conviction, and a head to die for, would Cavani be worth the price being talked about?

City have their own problems with strikers over the past 18 months. With Tevez boycotting a pitch arrival in Munich in 2011, he has soon redeemed himself with most City fans with his usual ruthless attacks and passion which fails in so many players. With manager Roberto Mancini and so many City fans still unconvinced about Edin Dzeko, it seems as so his days at City aren't going to continue long past the Summer window.

Napoli president is a known admirer of his fellow compatriot Mario Balotelli, a player whose days at City seem numbered come the summer time after a training ground spat with Mancini for the 4th time in his City career.

Would you like to see him used in a make shift in the deal for Cavani? Would Cavani add something new, exciting and be the difference in title staying in the blue half of Manchester or the Red?
